ROAST BEEF AND SHORTBREAD ARE WINNERS FOR HOLLYGIRT SCHOOL

CATERING staff at a Nottingham school were celebrating after winning a major national award.

Members of kitchen team at Hollygirt School, on Elm Avenue, were awarded a Silver CAP Award for their cooking and catering skills.

The CAP (Continuous Advancement Programme) Awards recognise excellence in catering in education and are regarded as the highest measure of quality.

Hollygirt Head Teacher Pam Hutley said she was immensely proud of the catering team’s recognition, their continued hard work and the commitment to the pupils’ well-being

She said: “This award is well deserved”.

“Every day the catering team works tirelessly to ensure we all have delicious and nutritious food to eat and I have no doubt that that plays a key role in the success of the wider school, after all, you are what you eat!”

Ian Jackson, Chief Inspector for the CAP Awards, said the catering team had impressed with their spirit and ability to tackle the day-to-day challenges faced in any catering operation.

He said: “The school feeds a wide age range of pupils, from three to 16, both boys and girls, so to cater to all these tastes is no mean feat”.

“The roast beef with all of the accompaniments was well received by the pupils with ‘seconds’ proving popular. The shortbread was beautiful as were the rice krispie cakes with the balance being provided by a good selection of fresh fruit”

“The feedback from pupils is very good particularly in regard to the progression of the service and dining facilities.”

During the inspection, the catering standards of the school were scored across all aspects of the service from due diligence to food storage and from staff training through to the actual pupil meal experience.
